Moving to Norway? Here are a few things you can expect

As a foreigner living in Norway, I know firsthand that things can be strange at times to say the least. To state the obvious, moving from sunny and dry South Africa to a much colder and wet climate, not speaking the native language or understanding that greeting a stranger on public transport is a mortal sin, are a few of the challenges that I’ve faced over the past few months. But, amongst the challenges lie absolutely wonderful moments that make Norway an incredible place to call home. I reckoned that instead of writing a lengthy blog post, I’d rather sift through a fjord load of cellphone footage that I’ve taken Read more

Oktoberfest time!

We were in Munich to visit the Nemetschek Headquarters for our yearly dRofus Europe gathering. It’s an excellent tradition with a perfect proportion of work and beers.. as dRofus knows how to do it. The city was buzzing with Bavarian outfits everywhere… no doubt, it is Oktoberfest time!  The visit of the Nemetschek Headquarters ended with a classic lunch with employees in outfits as well. The excitement was rising and we were all longing to discover Oktoberfest.  We headed back to Munich center where our Bavarian outfits were waiting for us in our hotel rooms! We’re ready to go! We were lucky to snag  the best tables in the biggest Read more

My first few weeks at dRofus

Why did I write this post?I have no idea! Kidding. I was asked by Brian – our marketer to write about my impressions of dRofus as a company to work in. From the perspective of a “new-beginner” since I have only worked here for one month. I got free rein to write my account of what went down!   How had I found myself in there? My story with dRofus begins a few months before I began working there. Having worked in a General Contractor firm, I wanted to focus more on BIM technology itself. I had shared that with my friend, who shortly after sent me an online advert Read more

Life as a developer

A typical day in the office starts at between 08:00 and 09:00, usually with a cup of coffee.  While letting the caffeine do its work, I look through emails and check Microsoft Teams to see if anyone asked any questions since I left the office yesterday. Respond as needed. Maybe check if any of our nightly builds failed, or if any of the new crash reports looks particularly scary.  A quick standup at 09:00. Do a quick report on what I did yesterday, what I intend to do today, ask for help or further clarification as necessary. Most of us are usually present in the office, but it’s entirely possible Read more
